Visualization is the process of imagining an event or scenario in the greatest detail possible. That is, employing all the senses sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch. In other words consider a retired event or outcome, what would be seen, what noises would be heard etc.
This is a very common skill since our minds tends to think in pictures rather than words. Some people may have a more acute feeling sense rather than imaging but, nonetheless the process is valid.
This process primarily concerns only self and is not a tool to 'fix' any attitude or attribute of anyone else. Bear in mind that any harmful thought or intention directed towards someone else will bounce back, possibly with a disagreeable amount of interest. If you are particularly keen to modify a person's conduct towards yourself consider re-adjusting your perspective. Remember everyone is doing the best they can from where they are right now.
Relax
Relaxation is the starting point. Allow earthly concerns to slip away for a short time and relax the body. Release tension in any way that suites you best. Consider a progressive muscle relaxation exercise or perhaps a short series of body stretches, yoga or pilates routines. While ever your muscles are tense your brain is generating the necessary patterns to maintain that tension and as far as this process is concerned generating self defeating static.
Attitude is Everything
Try to avoid treating this as chore, choose and intend to enjoy your sessions. Look at this exercise is a kind of training, and it really can be a lot of fun. You get to choose every aspect of the scenario just like film director. So, adopt a light hearted approach and not a "must do".
Timing
The best times for this exercise are considered to be just after you waken in the morning while you are not quite in to the swing of the day and just before you go to spleep. In the morning you have not started to consider what has to be done this day. At night all the day's events are behind you and rest is anticipated. That particular state of mind between sleep and being fully awake is when your subconscious mind is most receptive to suggestion and is characterised by the alpha brain wave pattern.
These are the times when the alpha state is reached naturally. However, this state can be induced by a variety of methods by relaxing and breathing deeply is the most natural and it can be done throughout the day. There are numerous cd's around that you can use if you scpecifically set aside some time.
Repetition and Persistence
As with any skill it has to be learned and praticed to achieve competence.
